HOW TO: Buy/Install a Graphics Card
When it comes to buying graphics cards nowadays i see people going into bestbuy and blowing away an extra 200$.
THE EXAMPLES ARE MADE IN AMERICAN DOLLARS
When it first comes to buying a g-card (g-card = graphics card for short) you will have to figure out what kind of slot you have. I found a picture and edited a little.
Those are the kind of slots a PC might have. The best go in order from:
PCI-Ex16>AGP>PCI-Ex1>PCI
Your PC will have atleast 3 PCI or more + a Graphical slot. Dont buy a graphics card for your PCI if you have a PCI-Ex16
To figure out which slot you have, you will have to open the side door to your PC Case.
WARNING: Some New PC's have Warranties. There may be a sticker from your side door to your back of the case. They normally can peel off then you can stick back on. Just watch out.
First i am going to start of with the lowest, PCI.
PCI:
The cards made for that now are just lowest of the low. DON'T EXPECT GOOD GRAPHICS. The highest card for PCI I've ever seen was a 6100Geforce from Nvidia.

All other radeon series you can find for PCI are below this. (i.e. Radeon 7000)

PCI-Ex1:
this is were you have 3 PCI(or more) and a PCI-Ex1.
Look for the Following cards, search Google or something don't ask.

Unistall Graphics drivers for current card 2. Turn off PC 3. Insert Graphics card 4. Turn on Pc, and install new graphics drivers (should be on a CD)

How to schedule an update reminder in Windows XP
You can make Scheduled Tasks run a script that launches Internet Explorer 7 with Microsoft Update in one tab and Secunia Software Inspector in another. I use IE 7 in this example because Microsoft Update won’t run in most other browsers, such as Mozilla Firefox. The technique shown below is adapted from a Windows Scripting Host script published by Tony Schreiner in his MSDN blog.
Step 1. Open your favorite text editor, such as Notepad. Type or paste in the following five lines:

Step 2: Save the file with a .js extension. For example, I named mine Update-me.js.
Step 3: Choose Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Scheduled Tasks.
Step 4: In the Scheduled Tasks window, double-click Add Scheduled Task. Step 5: In the Scheduled Task Wizard, click Next. Then click Browse.
Step 6: Locate and select Wscript.exe in Windows’ System32 folder. (Or just type c:\Windows\System32\Wscript.exe in the File name box; your path may differ.) Click Open.
Step 7: In the next step of the wizard, select Monthly and click Next.
Step 8: Specify a start time. Select the second radio button and specify the second Tuesday. Leave all months checked. Click Next.
Step 9: Enter your account name and password for an administrator account. (Only administrators can install updates.) Click Next.
Step 10: Check the box for opening advanced properties and click Finish.
Step 11: When the Wscript Properties dialog box opens, click at the end of the line in the Run box. Type a space followed by the path to your script (.js) file. If the path includes spaces or long names, put it in quotation marks. For example, when you’re done, the finished command should read something like this:
c:\windows\system32\wscript.exe “C:\My Documents\update-me.js”
Step 12: Click OK. Enter your account name and password again, if prompted. Click OK.
As long as you are logged in as an administrator on the appropriate day, Scheduled Tasks will open a browser with these two sites, reminding you of this important chore.
How To Speed Up My Torrent Downloads
If you are a Bit Torrent downloader, you know what slow download speeds are like…frustrating and annoying, to say the least. Instead of getting your music or movie within a couple of hours, your software predicts it will take 2 to 4 days.
Now, while many of the speed factors involved are out of your control, there is at least one thing you can do at your receiving end to improve this speed. It is called “Port Forwarding”, or “opening your specific TCP ports”. This is how it works.
1) That blue or green network cable coming out of your computer/modem/router is actually a busy highway comprised of 65,536 tiny electronic lanes (yes, over sixty-five thousand little lanes for your electrons). Each lane is called a “port”, and each port is designed to allow only specific types of information through.
Many ports are assigned in a semi-standardized way. Here are some example port assignments:
- HTML pages: port 80
- FTP file transferring: port 21
- World of Warcraft: port 3724
- POP3 email: port 110
- MSN Messenger: port 6901 and ports 6891-6900
- Everquest: port 1024
- Bit Torrents: port 6881
2) Bit torrents, by default, first look for port 6881 to enter/exit your computer. If port 6881 is closed for whatever reason, torrents then go to port 6882, then 6883, and so on, until it eventually tries port 6999 before giving up.
3) Every ISP, and every home router, can optionally block any of these ports with the intention of preventing hackers and controlling the network.
4) If you tell your own personal router and firewall at home to open (aka “forward”) port 6881 and port 6882, then your bit torrents will find their way into your computer that much faster. Sometimes up to 5x faster.
Yes, opening ports does increase the possibility of getting hacked by unwanted bad guys, but there are means to reduce that threat while still getting fast torrent download speeds.
How to check which version your PC has
If a system has been patched in the past few months, the nine executables in Windows\System32 will either show an earlier version number, 7.0.6000.374, or the stealth patch: 7.0.6000.381. (The version numbers can be seen by right-clicking a file and choosing Properties. In XP, click the Version tab and then select File Version. In Vista, click the Details tab.) In addition, PCs that received the update will have new executables in subfolders named 7.0.6000.381 under the following folders:
c:\Windows\System32\SoftwareDistribution\Setup\ServiceStartup\wups.dll
c:\Windows\System32\SoftwareDistribution\Setup\ServiceStartup\wups2.dll
Users can also verify whether patching occurred by checking Windows’ Event Log:
Step 1. In XP, click Start, Run.
Step 2. Type eventvwr.msc and press Enter.
Step 3. In the tree pane on the left, select System.
Step 4. The right pane displays events and several details about them. Event types such as “Installation” are labeled in the Category column. “Windows Update Agent” is the event typically listed in the Source column for system patches.

Change the registered owner of your PC
Would you like the change the registered owner and organization for your Windows Vista installation? Follow these steps below to make the registry changes necessary:
1. Click on the Start Button and type in regedit and hit Enter.
2. Navigate through HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, SOFTWARE, Microsoft, Windows NT and CurrentVersion.
3. Right click on RegisteredOwner and select Properties.
4. Enter in the new RegisteredOwner value.
5. Right click on RegisteredOrganization and select Properties.
6. Enter in the new RegisteredOrganization value.
